The President of CEMICAMP, Dr. Luis Bahamondes, was one of the speakers at the 16th Obstetrics and Gynecology Meeting of Tocantins, recently held in Palmas from March 9 to 11, 2023, by SOGITO. During his presentation, he discussed Advances in Contraception and the importance of long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) for women’s reproductive health. He emphasized that these methods are highly effective and safe, with very low failure rates, and can be inserted immediately after childbirth without affecting breastfeeding.
Additionally, the research conducted by his doctoral student Fabiana Cândida, who studied pain classification during IUD insertion in adolescents with her research team, was presented. The study assessed pain and discomfort during IUD insertion in adolescents using a numerical pain scale and a subjective assessment questionnaire. The results showed that pain was reported as moderate by most adolescents, but the majority reported that the insertion was easier than they had expected.
