Contraception
AInternacional Contraceptive Access Foundation (ICA) was established in December 2003 as a partnership between Bayer AG, one of the global leaders in specialized pharmaceutical products, and the Population Council, an international nonprofit organization. Its goal is to provide intrauterine devices with levonorgestrel release (LNG-IUS) to local health service organizations on a non-profit basis, addressing the reproductive needs of women in resource-limited settings, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

Since its foundation, the ICA Foundation has donated nearly 250,000 LNG-IUS devices to projects in 47 countries. These initiatives involve collaborations with local non-profit organizations, hospitals, and global partners operating networks of care units. Beneficiary institutions employ various strategies to expand women’s access to contraceptive options and quality family planning services. With a sole focus on service delivery, the Foundation does not make product donations for biomedical research, including clinical trials.
